This is a very helpful artical. There does seem to be three distinct seasons in the context of small groups. The difficult part is discerning where a particular group is at (usually there is a mix of each), and then transitioning to the next season appropriately.
I think a "seeder" group needs to have some sort of benchmark or end in sight. Like an 8 week, 3 month, or 6 month commitment. That way it becomes a lot more clear to everyone that they need to grow and progress into the feeder stage and reproduce.
How long is it appropriate for a disciple to stay in seeder mode?

Great stuff. One area I would suggest is expanding on the three or four generation model of Grandfathers, fathers, sons.
I think one of the great problems in the west is Fathers who refuse to become grandfathers, but retain authority over their older sons. I have seen this over and over in churches and mission orgs. Paul talks about parents laying up for their children, not children for their parents. I interpret that to mean Grandfathers need to be about enabling their older sons to be successful--not about their success (obvious applications to mentoring). Even the Father turned authority over to Jesus as an adult son (Cf. John 8) rather than treating Jesus as a subordinate.

I do think that George exemplifies this kind of mentoring but I think it needs to be pointed out!
Thanks,
Dick Scoggins

Hey, this is a great article. I work with Bible translation in a Muslim people group. It wasn't until we put the language into their script (Arabic script) but kept it in their mother tongue that 100s started coming to Christ! The few believers were against this idea as it "smelled of Islam." But, now that several villages have decided together to follow Christ, with the Mullahs as the heads of the community -- they see differently. Now they are all scrambling to learn Arabic script better to catch up with these Biblica movement. We still have to trust the Holy Spirit in new ways as they will not listen to any local denomination or misssion. Putting the Gospel in their 'heart script' as well as their 'heart language' has emerged as my main thrust now. Grace on you wonderful pages!
